Slough council plans season tickets at 10 car parks, from £210 a month, plus free permits for voluntary groups at 16. Objections close 6 November.
Slough Borough Council plans to sell season tickets at ten of its car parks, from £210 a month. Voluntary groups would get free annual permits at 16 car parks. Objections have to reach the council by Friday 6 November.
The changes are in a proposed amendment to the borough’s off-street parking order, Order 4 of 2026. The council published the notice and the draft order on 16 October.
What the season tickets would cost
Nine of the car parks would share one price list. They are Cippenham Recreation Ground, Harvey Park, Langley Leisure, Lascelles Park, Manor Park, Salt Hill Way, Slough Ice Arena, The Centre and Upton Court. Most of them are the parks and leisure car parks where charges began in April. The Grove, in the town centre, would cost more.
| Ticket | 1 month | 6 months | 12 months |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nine park and leisure car parks, Monday to Friday | £210.00 | £805.00 | £1,730.00 |
| Nine park and leisure car parks, every day | £300.00 | £1,100.00 | £1,990.00 |
| The Grove, Monday to Friday | £241.20 | £926.40 | £1,992.00 |
| The Grove, every day | £345.60 | £1,267.20 | £2,292.00 |
The draft order sets the hours. The weekday tickets cover 7am to 10pm, Monday to Friday. The every-day tickets are valid 24 hours a day. Langley Leisure appears only in the weekday list, so it would have no every-day ticket.
Each ticket would be valid only in the car park it was issued for, and only for the person it was issued to.
How that compares with paying by the day
At the park car parks, a stay of five to ten hours costs £10 under the council’s own tariff. Someone paying that on 21 working days would spend £210, the same as a monthly weekday ticket. The 12-month weekday ticket works out at about £33 a week, against £50 a week paying daily.
The Grove is different. Its posted all-day rate is £6.60 for five hours or more, so 21 weekdays would cost £138.60. That is less than the £241.20 monthly ticket. The notice does not explain the gap.
Free permits for voluntary groups
The council would issue a free permit to voluntary groups based in the borough that meet criteria it sets. The draft order says:
- each permit lasts up to a year
- the council decides how many permits each group gets
- a permit is valid only in the car park and for the vehicle it was issued for
- it must be returned if the group stops meeting the criteria
The 16 car parks named for the permit are Buckingham Gardens, Burlington, Cippenham Recreation, Elmshott Lane, Harrow Market, Harvey Park, Herschel Street, Lascelles Park and the land east of its entrance, Langley Leisure, Manor Park, Observatory House, Salt Hill Way, Slough Ice Arena, The Centre and Upton Court. The Grove and Vicarage Way are also named in the draft order’s schedules.
The council’s statement of reasons says the permit is meant “to aid in providing care in the community”. It says the season tickets are meant “to aid businesses in the Borough and to encourage the use of off street parking as a means of helping to ease on street parking congestion”.
Two car parks come off the list
The order also deletes Alpha Street North and Hatfield from the 2017 order that governs the council’s car parks. Alpha Street North was turned into 14 council homes in 2021. The notice gives no reason for removing Hatfield.
What it means for you
- If you commute to a job near one of the park car parks, a 12-month ticket would cost less than paying £10 a day. A monthly ticket would cost about the same.
- If you park at The Grove, the season ticket would cost more than the day rate on weekdays, on the council’s current tariff.
- If you run a voluntary group, the permit would be free. The council has not yet published the criteria or how to apply.
- To object, write to the council’s Associate Director Operations, Place and Communities, Observatory House, 25 Windsor Road, Slough SL1 2EL, giving your grounds. It must arrive by Friday 6 November.
