Holy Family and The Langley Academy Primary each earn three Strong grades on Ofsted's new report cards. Marish and Hillingdon Grange meet the standard throughout.
Two Langley primary schools have been rated Strong in three areas each on Ofsted’s new report cards. Holy Family Catholic Primary School and The Langley Academy Primary were the best-graded of four Slough schools whose cards Ofsted published in September.
Marish Primary School, also in Langley, and Hillingdon Grange School on Datchet Road met the expected standard in every area. No area at any of the four was graded Needs attention or Urgent improvement, and all four met Ofsted’s safeguarding standards.
The grades at a glance
Ofsted’s report cards replaced the single-word judgements such as Good and Outstanding. Each school now gets a grade in up to six areas, on a five-point scale from Exceptional down to Urgent improvement. Ofsted says Strong standard means “leaders are working above the standard expected of them”.
| School | Inspected | Published | Strong | Expected |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Holy Family Catholic Primary, High Street, Langley | 10 March | 8 September | Achievement; attendance and behaviour; inclusion | Curriculum and teaching; early years; leadership and governance |
| The Langley Academy Primary, Langley Road | 15 and 16 July | 28 September | Attendance and behaviour; early years; inclusion | Achievement; curriculum and teaching; leadership and governance |
| Marish Primary, Swabey Road, Langley | 7 July | 11 September | None | All six areas |
| Hillingdon Grange School, Datchet Road | 16 June | 21 September | None | All five areas |
The four are every Slough school with a report published since 1 August, according to Ofsted’s search for the borough. A fifth listing, for Pippins Primary School in Colnbrook, is a notice that the school has become an academy in the Marish Academy Trust, not an inspection.
Holy Family Catholic Primary School
Holy Family, on the High Street in Langley, has 454 pupils and is part of St Thomas Catholic Academies Trust. Its card is dated 10 March 2026 and Ofsted published it on 8 September.
Inspectors rated achievement Strong. “Pupils, including disadvantaged pupils, achieve very well,” the card says, with test results “above the national average across most performance measures” (Ofsted report card).
The figures on the card bear that out for 2024/25:
- 77% of pupils reached the expected standard in reading, writing and maths, against 62% nationally.
- 78% of disadvantaged pupils did so, against 47% nationally.
- 88% reached the standard in reading and 85% in maths.
Attendance is “above national figures for all pupils and key groups”, inspectors found.
Ofsted’s next steps for the school:
- use assessment better to find and close gaps in pupils’ knowledge
- set clear expectations for handwriting across the school
- make the most of every chance for high-quality talk with children in the early years
- the trust should make sure governors have the knowledge to challenge leaders well
The card notes that the school had no appointed chair of governors at the time of the inspection.
The Langley Academy Primary
The Langley Academy Primary, on Langley Road, has 671 pupils and is part of The Arbib Education Trust. Inspectors visited on 15 and 16 July and the card was published on 28 September.
Inspectors called early years “a notable strength of this school”. They rated inclusion Strong too, describing “a highly inclusive school, which serves a community of diverse backgrounds and needs”. Pupils’ attendance is above the national average and their conduct “across the school is excellent”, the card says (Ofsted report card).
Results are close to the national picture. In 2024/25, 61% of pupils reached the expected standard in reading, writing and maths, against 62% nationally. Writing is the standout, at 83% against 72%.
Inspectors asked leaders to keep building staff’s skill at spotting gaps in what pupils know, and to make teaching more consistent “so that pupils’ outcomes at the end of KS2 improve further”.
Marish Primary School
Marish, on Swabey Road, is the largest of the four with 802 pupils. It met the expected standard in all six areas. Its results are among the strongest on these cards, though:
- 77% of pupils reached the expected standard in reading, writing and maths in 2024/25, against 62% nationally.
- 70% of disadvantaged pupils did so, against 47% nationally.
Inspectors said attendance has improved and is “now in line with national figures”, and that persistent absence “has reduced notably”. The school’s minibus collects some pupils, and older pupils greet younger ones at the door each morning. Just over one in ten pupils (10.6%) has an education, health and care plan, three times the national average of 3.5% (Ofsted report card).
Next steps are to keep attendance improving, make teaching consistently well adapted to pupils’ needs, and embed staff training.
Hillingdon Grange School
Hillingdon Grange is an independent school on Datchet Road with places for 187 pupils. Its card records 187 pupils with an education, health and care plan, so it serves children with special educational needs. It met the expected standard in all five areas on its card, published on 21 September after an inspection on 16 June.
Inspectors asked leaders to finish setting out what is taught in subjects such as history and PE, and to improve communication with parents. Most parents who answered Ofsted’s Parent View survey were “very positive”, the card says, but “a few felt that communication between school and home could be better” (Ofsted report card).
What it means for you
- Choosing a primary school for September 2027? Read the full card, not just the grades. Each one shows the school’s test results, attendance and the inspectors’ next steps. Strong grades in one area sit alongside Expected in others.
- A card can be months old when it appears. Holy Family’s was published six months after its inspection date, so ask the school what has changed since.
- Every school’s latest card is on Ofsted’s website. School holiday dates for this year and next are on our Slough school term dates page.
