Remembrance Sunday 2026 is Sunday 8 November. Slough's act of remembrance runs from the Town Square to St Mary's, and in 2024 High Street shut 10am to 1pm.

Remembrance Sunday 2026 falls on Sunday 8 November. Armistice Day is Wednesday 11 November. Slough’s civic act of remembrance has run to the same shape for years: an assembly in the Town Square on the High Street, the two minute silence at 11am, then a procession to the war memorial at St Mary’s Church on Church Street.

The council has not published its 2026 timetable yet. What follows is the arrangement it published for 2024, which is the most recent it has put out, plus the road closures it made that year. Treat the times as the expected pattern, not as confirmed, until the Mayor’s office issues this year’s notice.

The 2024 timetable, which is the pattern

From the council’s own announcement, with the Mayor leading:

  • 10.40am Assemble in the Town Square, High Street
  • 10.45am Inspection of cadets, followed by prayers
  • 11am The act of remembrance and the two minute silence
  • 11.05am Procession to St Mary’s Church, Church Street
  • 11.15am Procession arrives at St Mary’s
  • 11.25am Civic service of remembrance begins
  • 12 noon Wreath laying, approximately

In heavy rain there is nothing in the Town Square at all and the service starts at 10.50am inside St Mary’s, with everyone seated by 10.45am. The wreath laying at the memorial goes ahead whatever the weather. All are welcome. (Slough Borough Council, 28 October 2024)

The council ran a slightly different order in 2021, with a reading of In Flanders Fields and the wreath laying at 11.30am rather than noon, so the detail does move year to year. (Slough Borough Council, 11 November 2021)

The roads that close, and for how long

Slough closes the streets under section 21 of the Town Police Clauses Act 1847 rather than a normal traffic order, and it makes two of them, one for the town centre and one for Langley. In 2024 both ran from 10am to 1pm and both were signed and staffed.

Both orders exempt emergency and statutory undertakers’ vehicles, and anything done at the direction of a police officer.

No 2026 order has been published yet. Neither Remembrance order appears anywhere in the council’s public notices and orders pages as at 5 September. (Slough Borough Council, public notices and orders) In 2024 the council’s notice went out on 28 October, so late October is when to look.

Langley has its own parade

The separate Langley order is the giveaway: the borough holds two events, not one. The Langley procession runs along Parlaunt Road and High Street Langley to the Memorial Ground opposite Harrow Market, which is also where Langley’s Christmas lights are switched on in December.

Diwali falls on the same day this year

The council’s own fireworks licensing table gives Diwali as 8 November 2026, the same day as Remembrance Sunday, and Bonfire Night as 5 November. (Slough Borough Council, dates you can sell fireworks) Fireworks may be let off until 1am on the main day of Diwali, against the usual 11pm limit, so expect a noisier night than a normal Sunday. Parking on the morning

The 2024 closures covered High Street between Windsor Road and Church Street, plus Church Street itself, so aim for a car park you can leave without crossing that line. Tariffs, maximum stays and the Blue Badge concession are on our parking in Slough page. Blue Badge holders park free all day in every charged council car park and on-street bay. Check Slough roadworks and travel for anything else on the network that morning.
